PASC : post acute sequelae  of COVID-19

  • S/S

    > 12 or more weeks after onset Covid 19.

  • Incidence 10%
  • Causes:
    • direct toxicity especially to lungs
    • Immune dysregulation : on  going inflammation
    • Impaired regulation of ace to renin angiotensin system
    • Hypercoagulability
    • Permanent heart and lung damage
    • Post viral  fatigue
    • Continuing symptoms of COVID-19
    • Persistent viral infection in Immunocompromised
    • Reinfection with another variant
  • S/S: Symptoms :
    • Persistent cough
    • Extreme fatigue
    • Muscle weakness
    • Brain fog
    • Memorylapses
    • Low grade fever
    • Depression
    • Headache
    • Sleep disturbances
    • Anosmia
    • Ageusia
    • Bouts of vomiting and diarrhea
    • Paresthesia
    • Joint pain
    • Sore throat
    • Dysphagia
    • GERD
    • SOB: shortness of breath
    • Palpitation
    • Chest pain
    • New onset diabetes and hypertension
    • Tinnitus
    • Oral problems
    • Acute and chronic renal disease
    • DVT, PE
  • Rx: symptomatic care
